Do you know where your kids are tonight?

Where does this guy think he's going? Well, let me tell you. School is out so he and his buddies decided to do some sight-seeing. A little water skiing maybe? Try globetrotting. Before the ink was dry on his Engineering Degree, Logan Jones landed a work exchange at the University of Aalborg in Denmark. Since the end of May, he's been skipping through Europe, stopping over in places like Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona (where he caught a few Oilers games), Paris, London, and only he knows where else. Oh yes, he also visited Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland before reaching his final destination a few days ago.

It all seems so daunting for one of your kids to be traveling so far away from home, and sometimes all alone. Yet, it's all relative. He's probably worried about his kid sister getting bucked off her horse somewhere back in Alberta. So, Kendra and Logan, both of you be safe.

The other side of romantic

A plane in Spain silhouetted in front of the silvery moon. How romantic is that? But, this was Tuesday. Today (Thursday), all British Airways flights were cancelled and London airports closed to most European carriers when authorities uncovered a terrorist plot to blow up 10 commercial aircraft on their way to the U.S. At the best of times, Heathrow may well be the busiest, if not the largest, airport in the world. When security measures reach the "critical" level as they did today, it is difficult to describe the chaos that ensues.

I know how these people feel. Last year we were in London when the Underground and some buses were bombed on July 7. Rescue operations and investigations were ongoing. The Underground station we arrived at was still closed when we left four weeks later, which made getting to Heathrow a bit dicey. The congestion was much like what you see in this photo taken at Gatwick today. Because of the line-ups a year ago, many missed their flights. Conditions were even worse Thursday. The other side of romantic.

What is going on here?

They look a bit like porcupine quills, don't you think? Unlike nature's quill of self defense, however, what you see are actually missiles of mass destruction. They have been fired from Lebanon's port city of Tyre by the terrorist group called Hezbollah ("Party of God"). The result? 15 more deaths in Israel and 13 in Lebanon on this very day.

Missiles from Lebanon? A far cry from the carpenters and stone masons who came from that country to help David build his palace and later to assist Solomon with the temple.
