
They look a bit like porcupine quills, don't you think? Unlike nature's quill of self defense, however, what you see are actually missiles of mass destruction. They have been fired from Lebanon's port city of Tyre by the terrorist group called Hezbollah ("Party of God"). The result? 15 more deaths in Israel and 13 in Lebanon on this very day.
Missiles from Lebanon? A far cry from the carpenters and stone masons who came from that country to help David build his palace and later to assist Solomon with the temple.

Apparently "From Beirut to Jerusalem" (friedman) does a good job at trying to explain what western minds just don't get.
Having lived in both areas plus his academic background in Middle East studies, he admits his own biases. Daniel Pipes once said Friedman's "proximity to the scene of action means he gets the larger context wrong." Haven't read the book but they say he has a gift for conveying complex problems simply and pungently.
