The other side of romantic

A plane in Spain silhouetted in front of the silvery moon. How romantic is that? But, this was Tuesday. Today (Thursday), all British Airways flights were cancelled and London airports closed to most European carriers when authorities uncovered a terrorist plot to blow up 10 commercial aircraft on their way to the U.S. At the best of times, Heathrow may well be the busiest, if not the largest, airport in the world. When security measures reach the "critical" level as they did today, it is difficult to describe the chaos that ensues.

I know how these people feel. Last year we were in London when the Underground and some buses were bombed on July 7. Rescue operations and investigations were ongoing. The Underground station we arrived at was still closed when we left four weeks later, which made getting to Heathrow a bit dicey. The congestion was much like what you see in this photo taken at Gatwick today. Because of the line-ups a year ago, many missed their flights. Conditions were even worse Thursday. The other side of romantic.
