The Battle of Alberta

In case you haven't heard about "The Battle of Alberta," this is what it looks like . . . on ice.

This was the first game of the 2006-7 NHL season for both the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. What they didn't accomplish during regular time, they were attempting to finish in this little skirmish at the end of the game. This is Steve Staios going after Tony Amonte for getting too physical with Dwayne Roloson, the guy wearing all the armour. The swords you see them fighting with are more like wooden clubs which they use to "stick" it to their opponents.

This particular seige took place last night in what used to be called Northlands Coliseum. As you can see in the picture below, it is now looking more like a huge not so mobile M*A*S*H (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) with that Rexall Place logo displayed by its new owner. They're the ones who sell all the medical supplies to patch up those wounded in battle. Kind of like a win win.

Thats a great look on the always interesting battle of Alberta.

Between edmontonoilers.com, TSN and Edmonton Sun, i'm getting enough of an oiler fix to sustain me until home :)

BTW, i vote for the purple hat!

Have you looked into getting sling box? Jim Rome is always advertizing that as a cool way to watch games. Check it out if nothing else is working.

Another win for the Oil last night. They manhandled Gretzky's boys 5-2. Sykora is on fire. Picked up 4 points with a goal and three assists and is in now fifth in the scoring leaders' race. Nice addition to the team.
