Savor this!

This was the view from the deck of our "lakeside" cabin on Savary Island. Actually, you are looking at a bit of the Pacific Ocean. The boats you see are anchored in the northern Strait of Georgia and that's Vancouver Island in the distance. Savary is composed mainly of white sand and totally lives up to having the best sand beaches in the entire Province. "B.C.'s tropical Isle," as some call it, is approximately 90 miles plus two ferry crossings north of Vancouver.

Darren and Wanda have friends whose parents own property on Savary and have been visiting there for a number of years now. Always anxious to share their good times with us, we have been invited to join them on numerous occasions, and at last we took them up on it.

Here's Jessika with her Mom, digging in the sand and looking for who knows what. Darlene is down the beach a ways, looking for oysters. She harvested over twenty every morning.

Of course, Jake really gets into throwing the aerobie (I think that's what you call it) or kicking the soccer ball at his Dad.

You can see the white sandy beach in both of these shots.

Grandpa is nowhere to be seen - usually hiding behind a book, or in this case, behind the camera.

And here's grandma, hiding in the shade with the two beach bums. Nothing like a cold drink on a hot day to wash down the noodles and chips . Oh yes, and the sesame seed bars.

If that doesn't work, there's always the water to consider. So refreshing to get in there and splash around a bit, if not to swim. Or, if you're up to it, jump off the dock a few times, which everyone did . . . except for the two cautious ones.

Then comes a delicious meal at the end of the day. Here's another view from the deck - just to the right of the big tree you saw in the first one. Natural beauty everywhere. Hope these pics will give you some idea of what it was like, and that you'll be able to savor it a little bit too.
